R&D Engineer

New product design and development is more often than not a crucial factor in the survival of a company. In an industry that is fast changing, firms must continually revise their design and range of products. This is necessary due to continuous technology change and development as well as other competitors and the changing preference of customers. Research often refers to basic experimental research; development refers to the exploitation of discoveries. In the development of a smart knowledge based economy the importance of R&D within the Medical Device industry cannot be under estimated.

Typically an R&D engineer will have a degree or PhD in Engineering and a number of years experience within R&D Department either in academia or within industry. Developing and writing clinical trial protocols

Key Requirements for an R&D Engineer Include


  • Experience in developing products from concept to production
  • Problem solving techniques and methodical approaches to same
  • Designing to budget
  • Developing project plans and working within agreed plans and timelines
  • ability to identify and suggest improvements
